Bio:
Lucas Pandolfo is a Brazilian filmmaker and writer working and living in Paris, France. His work mainly deals how language is limited by interpreting the invisible to the visible. Lucas’ work captures the negative space and in-between moments of living. His films have been shown at multiple film festivals across Brazil and Europe and he has exhibited his work at [a sala] in Porto Alegre, Brazil, at Centre Anim’, Galerie du Bateau Lavoir and DOC! in Paris, France. He currently teaches Film Essay, Color Photography and Contemporary Film Critique at Emerson College's Global BFA in Film Art.

Solo show organized by myself and exhibited at [a sala] in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The project collected photos taken in 2016 and 2017. As my first exhibition, the show aimed to reflect my purpose in photography and deal with the representation of reality in photography through memory.

EXPERIENCE:
UP the river with acid, Lead Editor, 2022-2023

In this documentary directed by Harald Hutter, I acted as the lead editor, worked on the post-production script and followed the film to its completion. Up the River With Acid has won the Grand Prix at Cinéma du Réel, the Prix Alternatif at Corsica Doc, and has been featured in several film festivals across Europe and North America.


ADJUNCT PROFESSOR IN Film Arts at Emerson College Global BFA, Paris, France - Fall 2021 - present
Undergraduate course title: Contemporary Film Critique. This is a seminar course that develops an understanding of film criticism as a form that is always open to revision. Each lecture explores a theme together with one or more films and media to create an understanding that films can be used to explain concepts and that concepts can be used to explain films. The idea that a frame is needed to understand a concept within film is one of the main topics discussed throughout the course. Course readings include: Anne Carson, Maria Balaska, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Maurice Blanchot, Svetlana Boym and others. Students are asked to develop two pieces of video criticism on individual films or televisual episodes and one piece of written criticism on a film that they have watched in theaters during the semester.

Undergraduate course title: Film Essay. This course deals with the concepts and theories behind essay films. Classes focus on introducing students to new films that are discussed together with a weekly reading. Goals include being able to successfully identify a film essay, be able to produce and conceptualize both visual and written essays and understand how its approaches can be applied to any kind of creative process. Course readings include: Hannah Arendt, Henri Bergson, Timothy Corrigan, Laura Rascaroli, Elizabeth Hardwick, Theodor W. Adorno, among others. Students are asked to develop two short film essays along with one written essay.

Undergraduate course title: Color Photography. A lecture course that provides students with an introduction to photographic theory and proposes the practice as a complimentary creative approach to filmmaking. Course readings include: Douglas Crimp, Christian Metz, Roland Barthes, Susan Sontag, Hito Steyrl, among others. Students are asked to develop photographic series based on weekly prompts inspired by the week’s lecture.

Responsibilities include: writing the syllabi, preparing and writing lectures, correcting, critiquing and grading written and visual assignments, maintaining office hours and advising undergraduate students on course subject matter.

ADJUNCT PROFESSOR IN Photography and Video at Paris College of Art, Paris, France — Spring 2020 - Present
Undergraduate course title: Introduction to Digital Media I and II. This course aims to equip all first-year students with the necessary skills and confidence to be able to use digital tools creatively. Taught since fall 2020.

Undergraduate course title: Digital Lab I - Video. This course serves as an introduction to filmmaking from conception to production. Classes focus on showing photography students the basics of video production with a heavy emphasis on film editing. Taught on Fall 2021.

Undergraduate course title: Alternative Image-Making. The course dealt with different perspectives in the world of still and moving images, working both as a seminar in visual studies and an instruction course in how to use digital and analog alternative processes in photography and video. Taught from Spring 2020 to 2022.

VIDEO PRODUCER AND INSTRUCTOR at ARS AEVI Contemporary Art Museum, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina — 2016
During my experience as a volunteer at the ARS AEVI museum, I created a video to advertise the museum to the general public and photographed the museum’s events. I also helped in archival matters and in mediating visits. Toward the end of my stay I was asked to minister a workshop on photography for local children.
